We are delighted to share the success of another memorable Hurling for Cancer, held on a sunny August evening at Netwatch Cullen Park, Carlow. Now a firm highlight in our calendar, Hannon Travel was once again sponsoring Jim Bolger’s Stars as they took on Davy Russell’s Best in a thrilling game of hurling. With 1.5 million euro raised by Hurling for Cancer to date, it is an important fundraiser in the Irish Cancer Society’s vital research efforts and an event we are proud to support.
This year’s event featured hurlers from Wexford, Carlow, Tipperary, Limerick, Galway, Kilkenny, Meath, and beyond, as well as stars from the worlds of horseracing, boxing, and football. With the promise of an autograph or a signed hurley, the stands were packed with children and families from all over Ireland ready to meet their sports heroes. To add to the excitement, TG4 streamed the match live, with over 20,000 viewers tuning in at home and X impressions that went into the tens of thousands – testament to the support for Hurling for Cancer all over the country.
Eimer Hannon, Managing Director of Hannon Travel, expressed her gratitude for our involvement in the event: “It’s hard to put into words how much Hurling for Cancer means to us at Hannon Travel. This year’s event was a huge success—the sun shone all evening, and the crowd was even bigger than last year. The highlight for me was seeing thousands of kids rush onto the field at half time to get their hurleys signed or to practice their skills. Hurling for Cancer is where sport, community, and families come together. It really is a magical event!”.
We at Hannon Travel extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to everyone involved in this year’s Hurling for Cancer event. Our thanks go out to the players, coaches, and all community members in the stands, as well as those who joined us from home and generously donated to Irish Cancer Society cancer research. A special thank you to our team at Hannon Travel for their support on the night and behind the scenes.
